JOEY JORDISON on his addictions

In the next Kerrang! magazine, SLIPKNOT drummer Joey Jordison speaks frankly about his long-running, and very private, battle with drug addiction for the first time.

"I realized I had a problem with narcotics when I realized that I wasn't just hurting myself, I was hurting the people around me," Jordison told Kerrang! "I had a real moment of clarity last year. My girlfriend at the time, a girl who I thought I was gonna be with forever, cheated on me and I went on a three-week coke binge. I actually wrote some of the riffs for the new album ['All Hope Is Gone'] around that time, which is the only good thing to come out of it. But I just wasn't having fun anymore and my family knew it.

"My sister, Annie, kept trying to call me but I didn't want to speak to anyone. The phone was off the hook," he continued. "I didn't answer my door, the lights were off, and I was just fucking ragingly pissed off all the time. So she sent me a picture of my nephew. He was trying to play drums and he was wearing one of my old masks. And so I called her and she put him on the phone and he said 'I love you, uncle Joey,' and I was like 'Fuck it, I'm done. This is fucking stupid.' I realized I was basically fucking dying. It took that to make me realize what was really important in my life and that I'd done a lot of mean things to people."

Jordison also told Kerrang! that he's already bought his own grave.

"It's over down on Second Avenue [in SLIPKNOT's home town of Des Moines, Iowa]," he said. "That's what being in SLIPKNOT does to you."

We know you will be hugely disappointed and so are we. Canceling shows is never an easy decision and we apologize to all our fans, friends and family for not being there to throw down with you. We will be back in Europe this November and can't wait to see you all then.

Exclusive Slipknot Psychosocial Uncut

Yet another interview with Clown.

Taken from chartattack.com

Slipknot have become one of the most popular and controversial metal bands of the last decade. Despite their immense popularity, percussionist Shawn "Clown" Crahan takes pride in the fact that, in their minds, they're still the same outcasts.

"I think we're more dangerous now than ever because good soldiers get to be good generals. That's where we're at. It's been 10 years of a philosophy, and I ponder it all day long. I remember not being able to walk down certain hallways just because we were brand new and misunderstood and misconstrued. People were discriminatory towards us. It was bad. But now, living the 'fuck it all' [mentality], we've pretty much broken down all the walls. We've pretty much kicked everyone who was going to be in our way out of our way, and all the naysayers are looking for passes."

Crahan says being different is the whole point.

"I enjoy knowing that what we create doesn't fit within these walls of efficiency. We're always the anomaly — the random chaotic thing in life that reminds you that you don't know shit and you need to always grow."

Although Crahan seems more than happy being an outsider, Slipknot made every move to try and fit in on their last record. They went to Los Angeles to record Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses with producer Rick Rubin. But despite his proven track record, Rubin's philosophy apparently didn't mesh well with the members of Slipknot. But he left his mark on Crahan.

"I would definitely want to go back with Rick. Rick is much more to me than we even have time to talk about, and it don't even feel good talking about it anymore for the simple fact that everyone's got their own idea of what producing is. And what it comes down to is everyone's got their own art and their own idea of what art is. What you try to do is you try to have an idea and try to have as many people to work around that idea as possible.

"And maybe Rick didn't do that for some people. So for me, all I can say is I definitely wanted to work with Rick again. I'm not going to say it's a mistake that we didn't, because we know what we're doing. This record sounds phenomenal. Dave Fortman did a great job on separating all of us, and I think sonically it's a great record. For me, Rubin's my head. That's where I'm at, to be honest with you. If you want to go all the way down the hole, then Rick's your guy. That's what I like to do. I like to go all the way down the hole. I'm looking for the rabbit, man."

For their upcoming record, All Hope Is Gone, Slipknot chose to avoid recording hot spots like New York or L.A. and elected to record in America's heartland in Jamaica, Iowa, near their hometown of Des Moines.

"We have a good friend who owns some land, just under eight acres," Crahan says. "His place is called Sound Farm. It's about 40 minutes from home. It was a pleasure. I would leave and come back and sleep next to my wife. The vibe that I had to leave and go to L.A. and do this thing called 'record making' because that's supposedly where we're suppose to do it, and pay my mortgage while I'm sitting in an apartment waiting to do my parts — are you fucking kidding me? If I had to do another record in L.A…. fuck, man, I don't know. I probably just would have left because I'm tired of it. I don't need it. I don't need what comes with it.

"Now when it came down to business, it was like, 'I'm getting up at 10 a.m., I'm getting in the shower, I'm driving out to the farm, I'm laying down some parts, I'm getting on my RM250, I'm riding around, I'm looking at cows, I'm fishing, I'm shooting bottle rockets, I got my kids out and I'm back home in my own bed.' It was the shit. I just lived it up, bro. I had the best time, and it was so close to home."

Curious what a metal album recorded on an Iowan farm sounds like? All Hope Is Gone is scheduled for release on Aug. 25, but you'll be able to hear Slipknot perform tracks from it beforehand when the band perform at the Rockstar Mayhem Festival with Disturbed, DragonForce, Mastodon and others at Toronto's Downsview Park on Aug. 8.

New interview with Clown

By Dave Wedge from Boston Herald

While many rock stars spend their downtime pondering when to order room service, Slipknot percussionist Shawn “Clown” Crahan spends his days working feverishly to make sure his hydraulic drum riser won’t snap in mid-air and plunge him to yet another near-death injury.

Such is life when you’re in a maniacal mob that currently has one member in a wheelchair because he broke both heels leaping off a riser.

“One wrong move and uh-oh, Slipknot fashion,” said Crahan, who’s also known as #6 of the nine masked metal masters. “Nothing in Slipknot is safe.”

The agonizing injury to Sid “#0” Wilson occurred in Washington during the first show of the Iowa-based band’s run on the Rockstar Mayhem Fest, which pulls into Mansfield’s Comcast Center tomorrow.

The injury hasn’t slowed either Sid or the band. In fact, when the Herald caught up with Crahan by phone from St. Louis, the keg-slamming percussionist was desperately working with his crew to reinforce the welding on his drum lift. The reason? The previous night, Sid hung from it and it nearly broke off, which would have likely plummeted both musicians to further injuries.

“Sid was crawling on it and it bent forward, and I could feel it. If we had been on it anymore, I think we would have been done,” Crahan said.

Live, Slipknot is a seizure-inducing spectacle. But perhaps even more impressive is the fact that the Grammy-winning band has retained the same nine members for almost a decade.

“We have an unwritten oath that would never be understood by anybody about what we do and what we are,” Crahan explained. “It’s like this giant self-experiment on tolerance.”

Rumors of the band’s demise are constantly swirling, largely fueled by the success of singer Corey Taylor’s other platinum-selling band, Stone Sour, and other members’ side projects. But every couple of years they come back stronger than ever, and with redesigned versions of their horror-flick-inspired masks. The band’s latest album, “All Hope Is Gone” (Roadrunner), comes out later this month and if the blistering first single “Psychosocial” is any indication, it’ll be one of metal’s best this year.

“It’s an ongoing journey. It’s just another constellation in the nine-point star of Slipknot,” Crahan said of the new record.

As for the grueling - and frequently painful - life on the road, he added: “If it wasn’t for the god of music, I wouldn’t be able to get out there. I love it. As much as I hate it sometimes, I love it.”

Tattered And Torn Clothing Line Launched

Slipknot's Clown On 'Psychosocial' Video: 'Our Goal Has Always Been To Infect'

By Chris Harris
MTV.COM

For masked Iowan metallers Slipknot, this summer's inaugural Rockstar Energy Mayhem festival got off on the wrong foot — literally. In Seattle, during the band's first set of the tour, DJ Sid Wilson (a.k.a. #0) leapt from a riser stationed at the back of the stage and landed hard, breaking both his heels. While such injuries would sideline most rockers, it hasn't fazed Wilson one bit; he's vowed to take the stage each and every night of the tour and is employing a wheelchair as his primary means of transport.

But that's just the kind of band Slipknot are. Dedicated and intense, they simply don't quit — no matter what their bruises look like.

"[Sid] had to take his cast off last night, and I'm telling you, I couldn't even look at his feet," Slipknot percussionist Shawn "Clown" Crahan told MTV News this week. "Both his feet were black and blue — and deep. The bruises go, like, 2 inches in. But he's up there every night, no problem. He's so out of his mind, he's got a big bruise on his face because he's not used to slamming his head in a wheelchair. So he's got a huge bruise on his face from smacking his head into his tables. It never ends. You think you're out of it, and then you're back in, on some other painful level."

While Slipknot's members have suffered innumerable injuries on the road — most of them self-inflicted — Clown said you've got to admire Wilson's work ethic. "He's in a wheelchair, so that's pretty much the most extreme injury we've been hit with," Crahan explained. "I've had to miss an entire tour because of an illness of a family member, and [guitarist] Jim [Root] broke his wrist one time. But it was always you either miss the show or you don't. Sid was like, 'I broke my feet, but I can't miss a show, so here I am, in this wheelchair.' The good thing is, he now knows he's not 25 anymore."

German's Stenciling The Way They Want To!

Some German maggots decided to go a little bit over the line of the law with their All Hope Is Gone stenciling campaign. Hard core!

Slipknot Kerrang Honour!

To mark the return of the mighty SLIPKNOT, next week's Kerrang! magazine — out Wednesday, July 23 — will feature not one but nine individual covers!

SLIPKNOT is only the third band in Kerrang!'s 27-year history to be honored in this way, joining KISS and MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE.

Check out some teaser shots below.

In the latest issue of UK's Kerrang! magazine which went on sale today (Wednesday, July 16), SLIPKNOT frontman Corey Taylor gives an insight into the band's upcoming, fourth studio album, "All Hope Is Gone", with a world-exclusive track by track report.

"Our new album is gonna shock the fuck out of people," Taylor told Kerrang! "I'm so fucking excited about it!"

The follow-up to 2004's "Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)" was recorded at Sound Farm Studios in the band's home state of Iowa with producer Dave Fortman (EVANESCENCE, SIMPLE PLAN, MUDVAYNE).

"We just wanted to make something fresh and exciting," Taylor stated. "And after all the shit that we've been through in the last three years, it was time to take the gloves off again!"

For the full lowdown be sure to pick up a copy of this week's Kerrang! to see Taylor let rip on religion ("It all comes down to the fact that we have to save ourselves."), George W. Bush ("It's a dressing down of any civilization that takes themselves too seriously and where the 'leaders' are so pretentious that they think they are deemed to speak for the people.") and emo ("It wouldn't be a SLIPKNOT album if I didn't rag on the recording industry. This time, it's about all those little emo boys with their sweet haircuts.").

Interview With Paul Gray

Courtesy Ed Masley
azcentral.com

Paul Gray of Slipknot doesn't necessarily think all hope is gone.

He does, however, think All Hope Is Gone is Slipknot's strongest album.

"Dude, I mean, we've been a band for a long time, man," he says. "And I think this one shows a wider spectrum of what Slipknot is. It definitely has our heaviest songs but it also has our most melodic and most musical songs too. So it shows everything we are."

A few key factors led the costumed rockers to their finest hour, leaving them totally "stoked," as Gray says.

First, they all took a much-needed vacation from Slipknot.

It's been a little more than four years since they hit the charts at No. 2 with Vol. 3 (The Subliminal Verses).

As Gray sees it, "Dude, that last album, we were in the studio for nine months then we went out on the road for something like 300 shows in, like, 35 different countries. That can take its toll, dude. We got done and we were just like 'Man, I'm burnt.' So we just took some time away and did some other things."

It's not that they were on the verge of breaking up, he says. They just needed a break.

"We're like a family, dude," he says. "We fight like brothers. So taking that time off, it gave us time to let things cool down, time for people to talk and work things out, not to say that there were necessarily specific problems. People were just burnt. We did a lot of Slipknot in that time. And then having that time, you get to explore different musical things you want to do that wouldn't necessarily be right for Slipknot."

Lead singer Corey Taylor and guitarist James D. Root went off and did their other, less aggressive band, Stone Sour, releasing an album, Come What(ever) May, that hit the charts at No. 4.

"And then," Gray says, "when it came time for Slipknot everyone was stoked and got it done, dude. No one was burnt."

It also may have helped that they recorded for the first time ever in their home state of Iowa.

"Every album we've done, it's always been Los Angeles and I think there are just a lot of distractions there," Gray says. "In Iowa, dude, we were out on a farm in the middle of nowhere at this studio. There was nobody out there to bug us so we were able to just kind of concentrate. And it obviously made a difference. We just did what we wanted to do out in Iowa. Nobody messed with us. We had our space and time to do what we wanted to do and get it done. That's why I think it just came out best. And doing it in Iowa, getting to go home every night instead of having to stay away from your families, I think that helped out too with people's mindsets."

Looking back on 13 years of mayhem, Gray says, "I'm just so amazed that it's actually turned into a career instead me having to work at a bar and doing concrete to pay my bills and then going and doing the band, driving all over the place in the middle of the night. That it's actually turned into a full-blown career and that we've touched as many people as we have is amazing to me."

Asked what role he thinks the masks have played in their success, Gray doesn't hesitate to give the masks their due.

"Obviously, there's a visual aspect that's going to set us apart no matter what," he says. "Visually, we stand out from your average band. Nine dudes in masks? You're gonna remember them over four dudes with long hair."

SID Wilson Breaks Both His Heels

DJ Sid Wilson (#0) of SLIPKNOT broke both of his heels at the first show of the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival on July 9 in Auburn, Washington and has been forced to wear casts on both legs. He apparently jumped off one of the stages in the background of SLIPKNOT's stage set and landed incorrectly. Despite having casts on both legs, Sid has vowed to play all shows on the Rockstar Energy tour, even if it means getting around in a wheelchair, as was the case at last night's (Saturday, July 12) concert in Mountain View, California (pictures by Burningpoop).

SLIPKNOT's new album, "All Hope Is Gone", will arrive on August 23rd via Roadrunner Records. The title track was made available last month, while "Psychosocial" arrived at rock radio on June 30.
